The thyroid gland releases triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). Thyroid hormone is made by the thyroid gland, a butterfly-shaped endocrine gland normally located in the lower front of the neck. Thyroid hormone is released into the blood where it is carried to all the tissues in the body.
